This 4 zone time I use in both my front yard and backyard. It is amazing. Each zone can be set completely differently. It also has a rain delay feature. This saves me a ton of time watering my garden each day and afford me the freedom to go away for a weekend and not stress my plants won’t get watered. The thing I love about this is it hooks directly to your outdoor tap and then you hook a regular 3/4 “ garden hose connection to it. I even use it to water my grass with an above ground oscillating sprinkler.
In my yard I use a 3/4” main line (PVC tubing) to run from the water tap over to my garden and then I connect this 1/4” drip tubing to run up and down the rows in the garden. I like this 6” spacing for the drip emitter. This tubing is much smaller and much more malleable making it easier to weave around your garden beds and flowers. Be sure to add some drip tubing to your gardening tools shopping list.
*I have an entire page dedicated to just my drip irrigation system as there is lots of parts and pieces that can go into a system like this. Then you can decide more easily how to customize it for your yard. You can find that blog post by click this link.
If you get into composting then I recommend getting a compost thermometer. This will tell you the health of your pile and allow you to keep it in it’s optimal temperature range for compost that breaks down quickly. This has an extra long stem to reach way down into your pile.
I have several large compost bins and turn them over can be a challenge at the best of times. This tool has completely changes how I compost. You just push it down give it a half turn and then pull it back up. It will pull up contents from the bottom as well as loosen the material allowing oxygen and moisture to reach all parts of the pile. This speeds of the composting process considerably.
This style of shovel makes transplanting in your starts quick. It also allows you to easily plant something in close proximity to another plant without too much disruption as it’s nice and narrow. I like the full size handle such as this one to limit the need to bend over for this task.
